Human Activity Recognition System Including Smartphone Position

    Get PDF
AbstractThe data gathered by acceleration sensors in smartphones gives different results depending on the location of the smartphone. In this paper, a human activity recognition system was proposed, including the smartphone's position. This system can recognize not only the activity of a person, but also the location of the smartphone. HOG (Histograms of Oriented Gradients) were used to extract features of the acceleration data, because the waveform of the acceleration data is very complex. Then, a strong classifier was obtained using a learning algorithm of Real AdaBoost based on the position of possession smartphone and acceleration sensor data. It also improves the recognition rate by analyzing the acceleration data. The effectiveness of the activity recognition system was shown by the experiment

In our country it has been believed that there is no histoplasmosis here in Japan. However, from the above clinical signs, radiological characteristics, laboratory tests, pathological and mycological examinations, and experimental findings, we believe this is the first case of histoplasmosis in Japan.</p

Multi-command Tactile Brain Computer Interface: A Feasibility Study

The study presented explores the extent to which tactile stimuli delivered to the ten digits of a BCI-naive subject can serve as a platform for a brain computer interface (BCI) that could be used in an interactive application such as robotic vehicle operation. The ten fingertips are used to evoke somatosensory brain responses, thus defining a tactile brain computer interface (tBCI). Experimental results on subjects performing online (real-time) tBCI, using stimuli with a moderately fast inter-stimulus-interval (ISI), provide a validation of the tBCI prototype, while the feasibility of the concept is illuminated through information-transfer rates obtained through the case study.Comment: Haptic and Audio Interaction Design 2013, Daejeon, Korea, April 18-19, 2013, 15 pages, 4 figures, The final publication will be available at link.springer.co

Isolated Hemiataxia and Cerebellar Diaschisis after a Small Dorsolateral Medullary Infarct

Isolated hemiataxia after a medullary infarct is rare. We describe a case of isolated hemiataxia after a small infarct localized at the ipsilateral dorsolateral medulla. An 83-year-old man developed acute onset of ataxia in the left arm and in both legs. Speech and extraocular movement were normal, and he did not have any other neurological manifestations. Brain MRI showed a small infarct localized at the left dorsolateral medulla, which involved the inferior cerebellar peduncle. 123ECD-SPECT showed hypoperfusion in the left cerebellar hemisphere without clear vascular territory. Neuroimaging findings for our patient suggested the involvement of the inferior cerebellar peduncle that projects to the cerebellum in our patient

Shoko TAKAHASHI and Anton CESKA : About the materials of Shoko TAKAHASHI conserved at Vatican Library

Takahashi Shoko\u27s collection of photographs and a letter detailing the circumstances leading to the dotation of this collection are presently held at the Vatican Library. Irrespective of their huge historical importance, these historical materials were mostly forgotten for a long time. This paper offers an exhaustive analysis of the said collection of photographs and the background leading to their donation. The materials of Takahashi Shoko is composed on "the dedication letter to the Pope Pius 11th" (dated December 1933), Inventary of the old hand-copied sutra, and the 8 old hand-copied sutras "Koshakyo" (the Heian era, the Kamakura era, the Nara era, and the Muromachi era). Takahashi\u27s background is known a little. According to a collection of Biographies of hobbyists in Niigata Prefecture "Etsusa Shumi no Hitobito" (published in 1938), he live in Niigata city, comes from a noble family in Raigouji village. Moreover he is an authority of committe of a hobby in Niigata Mainichi newspaper, and a critic of paintings and calligraphic works, and a person who dedicated a letter to the Vatican Museum, having received a commission from the Pope. According to dedication letter by Takahashi, in the opinion that the offer of the found documents to the Holy Father may have some usefulness for the study of religious problems, after counseled with Anton Ceska, Prefect Apostolic of Niigata and a monk of Society of the Divine Word, he have granted the honor of offering them to the Holy Father for his Museum. Sutras belong to Daihannya. In this paper, while focusing on the relationship between Takahashi and Ceska, I will discuss the old hand-copied sutra dedicated by Takahashi to the Vatican, and doing so will bring to fore a little-known fact about the cross-cultural history between Japan, Niigata, and the Vatican
